Advanced English Language Programme |
This programme is taught through two modules; Write Right and Speak Right. This course is for students with a basic exposure to the English language, who need extensive practice and instruction in the finer aspects of the language.
1. Write Right
Write Right is a well-designed course for students who already have a sound understanding of English and want to enhance their writing skills and their command over the language.
Course Aim:
The program is aimed at developing language skills, improving reading speed, learning to take and organize notes, planning and delivering short speeches and presentations, writing essays and letters, etc. Furthermore, their writing skills, text analysis skills and note-taking strategies are sharpened. We take special care in developing skills such as writing reports and essays, note-taking from written and spoken text, understanding university lectures, research and study skills, discussions and debates.
The teaching methodology includes activities such as group discussions, mini-presentations, writing short stories, intensive listening skills and vocabulary expansion through Audio-Visual Aids. This course is designed to help the students improve their Written English.
During the course, they would have the opportunity to do the following :
- Write essays, articles and compositions with ease by focusing on the thought process required for writing
- Expand their vocabulary
- Participate in group discussions and debates
- Organize, develop and express ideas more effectively
- Critically evaluate and edit their own work and the work of others

2. Speak Right
The need to speak correct English has become a necessity in today's environment in order to function competently in social and professional contexts that demand analytical competence. The students use a variety of texts that expand their structural control over the language as they engage in individual and group assignments to develop their listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities.
Course Aim:
The aim of this course is to help the students improve their fluency and pronunciation in English by developing particular skill areas. It also aims at teaching the student to speak English with more fluency and confidence in any situation on a wide range of topics, participate in debates, communicate more effectively in public and pronounce English words with clarity and accuracy. The course prepares the students to enhance their public speaking skills by taking part in formal and informal conversations and by discussing abstract and cultural topics comfortably with clarity of speech, pace and pronunciation. Furthermore, the students develop listening and questioning skills, learn to suggest and recommend in English and to understand instructions.
